On October 10th we as a class embarked on a trip to the Palm House at Sefton Park Liverpool. Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust is a registered charity set up in 1996 to manage Sefton Park Palm House. Prior to that a committee worked closely with Liverpool City Council to bring together the final stages of the restoration campaign and to set up the Trust. This visit was my first experience of the Palm House and overall I personally loved it, so many vibrant and colourful flowers surrounding the room entirely in such a beautiful way. Furthermore, this stunning nature was inside of a glorious building, the architecture was so simple yet so professional, it really represented a magnificent greenhouse. During this visit me and the class had some activities/challenges to do, we had to create different pieces of work using different media and techniques, whilst we were also ask specifically what to draw here's how it came along..

As one of our tasks we were asked to create a composition of three different aspects of the Palm House, I personally choses these 3 sections because I find that they are all interesting with their unusual shapes and fine details. We were also asked to incorporate 3 different medias into our pieces using a Fine liner, Pencil and Charcoal. Therefore I created this piece by spending a few minutes at this area of the Palm House (Image 1), I applied fine and pointed strokes using the charcoal with my hand moving around in a circular motion to create the shape of the leaf. I also added fine liner onto the leaf to add tones and depth. Next, we moved onto our next section (Image 2), this was personally my favourite part to create as I loved the colours and the unusual shape of this flower, to do this I used the fine liner to create the outline of the flower and stem, then I applied the charcoal to create the shadows to capture the shape of the flower. As I loved the colour of this flower I wanted to Incorporate it into the piece to add simple effect, to do this I simply used a mixture of a yellow and gold toned oil pastels and filled in the spaces. Lastly, I moved onto this simple flower which I have already used in one of my pieces, as I wanted to add a simply detailed image as with the layering and all the detail I have already created using the pencil, I didn't want the piece to be too much. Overall, I find this piece was very successful as the composition worked out well, and the simple colour makes it look really effective.
